Important
Uber has no general customer service phone line. All support is through the app. However, safety issues get phone callbacks.
Safety Line (Emergencies Only)
US: 800-353-8237 (UBER)
Only use for active safety emergencies during or after a ride.
Why Uber Support Is Frustrating
Uber deliberately makes human support hard to reach. Their system prioritizes automated refunds and canned responses. Issues that actually need humans:
- Account hacked or deactivated
- Driver/rider disputes
- Lost items not resolved through app
- Safety concerns
- Incorrect charges not auto-refunded
Method 1: In-App Support (Required Path)
All non-safety support goes through the app:
Step-by-Step
- Open Uber app → tap Account
- Select Help
- Choose Trip Issues and Refunds (or relevant category)
- Select your specific trip/issue
- Tap "I still need help" or "Contact Support"
Magic Phrases That Escalate
- "This is a safety issue" — triggers priority response
- "I need to speak to someone urgently"
- "The automated system cannot resolve this"
- "I want to file a formal complaint"
Method 2: Twitter/X Support
Often faster than in-app support:
- Tweet @Uber_Support — monitored actively
- DM them with trip details (don't post personal info publicly)
- Include: Trip date, time, pickup location, issue summary
Method 3: Request Phone Callback
For certain issues, Uber offers callbacks:
- In Help, select your issue
- Look for "Call me" or "Request a call" option
- Not always available — depends on issue type
Uber Eats Issues
Similar process but through Uber Eats app:
- Orders → Select order → Help
- Missing items, wrong order, delivery issues
- Refunds usually automatic for simple issues
Lost Item Recovery
Lost Something in an Uber?
- Open app → Your Trips → Select the trip
- Tap "I lost an item"
- Enter phone number for driver to call you
- $15 fee if item is returned (goes to driver)
Account Issues
Hacked Account
- Change password immediately via help.uber.com
- Report unauthorized charges in app
- Contact your bank/card for chargebacks
Deactivated Account
- Check email from Uber explaining why
- Submit appeal through help.uber.com
- Response can take days — be patient
Pro Tip: Use Uber's Website
help.uber.com sometimes has more support options than the app. Try both if stuck.
When Uber Won't Help
- Chargeback: Dispute charges through your credit card
- Regulatory complaint: File with local transportation authority
- Small claims: For significant unresolved disputes
